A motion to table the 2015 Auditor- General’s Report before Parliament was agreed by Parliament last night.

The Attorney-General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, while speaking on the motion said the 2015 financial year reports had not been submitted to the minister responsible for finance or the Speaker of Parliament.

“Once I receive a copy of the financial statements from the Auditor-General I will then be able to table the 2015 Auditor-General’s Report to Parliament in accordance with the Financial Management Act 2004,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the report must include financial statements as audited by the Auditor-General.

National Federation Party Opposition MP, Biman Prasad, said the motion was a breach of the Constitution.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the motion seeking the approval of Parliament was allowed in the law for the submission of the Auditor-General’s report and Audit of the whole of Government financial statements for the financial year ending December 31, 2015 in Parliament.

Once the motion was approved, he said the Auditor-General would deliver a report to the Speaker and him in accordance with Section 152 (14).

“This is a very simple matter and the objective is to get the Auditor-General’s report to this Parliament so the Public Accounts can view it,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said.

The report would be submitted before Parliament today.
