Southern Boxing Promotions has been endorsed by the Boxing Commission of Fiji (BCF) to promote its first programme on May 20 at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

In the main event, Junior ‘Razor’ Farzan is scheduled to face upcoming and World Boxing Federation super lightweight champion, Sebastian Singh.

BCF director (West) Usman Ali said Southern Boxing Promotions has provided all documents required.

“We welcome promoters to get boxing back on track,”Ali said.

“We are still in the revival phase and we need quality boxers in our programme.

“Southern Boxing Promotions (SBP) has been given the green light.”

Canada-based Mohammed Shameen is the eldest son of the late Nur Mohammed who promoted fights under the same banner in Fiji.

SBP promoted fights which involved boxers like former heavyweight champions like Filimoni Naliva, Sunia Cama, Marika Nailavu, Iliavi Bose, Kolaia Bauli, and Tongans Mani Vaka and Luke Veikoso to name a few.

Shameen has promised to help in the revival of boxing in the country.

“I was with my father and I knew what’s involved,” he said.

“I have been coming to Fiji in the last three years to get a license.

“I personally want to promote Naliva’s sons (Savenaca and Junior) as their father helped us a lot and we want to do something in return.

There are many talented boxers in the country but not all are given the chance.”

In 1976, under SBP banner saw Bobby Stininato beat Ilavi Bose on points at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

Shameen has also visited countries such as Tonga, Samoa and Tahiti to confirm the availability of boxers for future fights.

Fixture: Main event (10×3) Junior Farzan – Sebastian Singh, Main supporting bout (8 X 3 min): Opeti Tagi – Savenaca Naliva, Supporting bout: Jonny Singh – Isia (Ghana), Ronald Naidu – Franco Fraser, Mathew Michael – Junior Kuar Singh, Sameer Ali – Krishna Mudaliar, Junior Naliva – Edreiel Thein (Burma), Rahul – Sachin Mudaliar.
