The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has a new Chief of Staff.

He is Colonel Ratu Jone Kalouniwai who has returned home after completing his term as Chief of Staff of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in the Golan Heights between Syria and Israel.

Colonel Kalouniwai replaces Colonel Litea Seruiratu who is now the Director Force Development and the Commandant of the Officer Training School.

Their appointments were among changes the RFMF Commander Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto confirmed yesterday.

He said the RFMF was now at a stage where “it is a bit more settled’’.

He said Colonel Kalouniwai had been posted to Headquarters RFMF, Berkley Crescent in Suva.

“We are looking at developing the Officers Training School and use it as a tool for the development of our officers,” Rear Admiral Naupoto said of Colonel Seruiratu’s appointment.

Colonel Seruiratu takes over from Lieutenant-Colonel Maika Baleinaloto, who is now the Commanding Officer of the battalion serving with the Multinational Forces and Observers (MFO) in Sinai.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said the Director Peace Support Operations (DPSO) Captain (Navy) Humphrey Biutilomaloma Tawake has been posted to the Headquarters of the Fiji Navy and appointed as the Chief of Navy.

Captain Tawake replaces Captain (Navy) John Fox who is currently away for a year of study.

Captain Tawake is replaced by Lieutenant Colonel Pacolo Luveni who successfully completed a year with the UNDOF in Syria as the Chief Military Personnel Officer.

He is also appointed as the Military Adviser.

Colonel Onisivoro Niumataiwalu Covunisaqa now holds the post of the Commander Land Force Command (LFC) replacing Colonel Sapenasa Motufaga who is also away for studies.

Rear Admiral Naupoto said: “The two senior officers Colonel Motufaga and Captain Fox are undergoing study at a Defence College, which is a college with the highest level of study for officers as it prepares them well for future senior postings within RFMF.”

He said the RFMF is thankful to those who have offered its officers places to undergo such training.

He added that Lieutenant-Colonel Jofiliti Talemaibau was now the Chief of Staff of Land Force Command (LFC) taking over from Colonel Covunisiga.

These appointments came into effect from March 17.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant-Colonel Luveni and Captain (Navy) Tawake are in Lebanon delivering the Bushmaster Protected Mobility vehicles which were bought from Australia for our peacekeepers.
