Vatulawa Young Boys team will participate in their first 2017 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s with the aim of making their village proud after being severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston last year.

The side is from the village of Navakawau in Taveuni and team manager Anare Tawake said participating in the two-day tourney is a good for the young players. .

“The village of Navakawau was badly hit by TC Winston and most of these players’ homes, families were affected and we just want to get these players out from the island to Suva for some recovery.

“Sixty per cent of these players are based in Suva and 40 percent came from the village, this is the first time for us to participate in the Marist tournament and the players are excited,” Tawake said.

The team was fortunate to secure the assistance of Globe Energy who purchased their jerseys.

The team is adamant for a positive performance. They are grouped alongside 2016 runners up Newnet Yasawa,Newtown Rugby and Navy in Pool 13.

“We do not fear any team in the pool,” he added. Edited by Osea Bola
