2 Front Court Over 12-Year-Old’s Death

Two men appeared at the Suva Magistrates Court yesterday in relation to the death of a 12-year-old boy in Navua. The matter was called before Magistrate Geethani Wijeshinge.
Shymal Ranish Chand, 27, was charged with a count each of reckless or negligent act and keeping a dog without licence. It is alleged that on March 19, at Vuninokonoko, Navua, while being in charge of a dog which he knew to be dangerous, had left the dog at large without being properly muzzled and omitted to take precautions against any probable danger, in a reckless manner endangering the life of Tushar Ronal Vikash Chaudhary.
Also in Court was Ravi Chand, 67, who was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death.
It is alleged that on March 19, at Vuninokonoko, Navua, he drove a motor vehicle in a manner which was dangerous and was involved in an impact with Tushar occasioning his death.
Defence counsel Jiten Reddy applied for bail for both the accused.
Ms Wijeshinge granted Ravi Chand bail in the sum of $1000, with two sureties who had signed surety bonds of $1000 each. Shymal Ranish Chand was granted bail in the sum of $300 with two sureties who have signed a surety bond of $300 each. Their bail conditions are that they are not to re-offend, not to change their residential address and are to report to the Navua Police station on the last Saturday of every month.
Ms Wijeshinge has transferred the matter to the Navua Magistrates Court. The case has been adjourned to April 19, for mention.
