CID Officer, 2 Others In Court On Theft Charges

A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer and two other men who are charged in relation to the Lokia Food City Supermarket theft appeared at the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Sergeant Amani Boseinawai, Meli Galu and Mausio Susau Dominiko appeared before Judge Justice Thusara Rajasinghe.

Defence Lawyer Samanunu Vaniqi informed the court that Boseinawai was not allowed to have his wife with him for the caution interview. She also said he was refused an ID parade as well as his request to confront those who had made allegations against him was also denied.

State prosecutor Siteri Navia sought 21 days to file information and disclosures.

Boseinawai, Galu and Dominiko are charged with a count each of conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and receiving stolen property.

It is alleged that on February 26, all three conspired to commit aggravated burglary at the Lokia Food City Supermarket in Nausori.

It is also alleged that on February 27, the three accused received stolen cash to a total value of $2500.

Galu and Dominiko are further charged with a count each of aggravated burglary and theft.

It is alleged that on February 26, they stole $117,630.25 cash and assorted cigarettes valued at $23,446.80, the property of Lokia Food City Supermarket.

The case has been adjourned to April 10, for mention.
