50 Years On, FEA Serves 175,000 Customers

The Fiji Electricity Authority has has been hailes for driving 50new rural electrification projects over the past decade.
Speaking during FEA’s Golden Jubilee celebration at the Grand Pacific Hotel on Friday night, Prime Minster Voreqe Bainimarama said over the past 50 years, FEA provided service foundation to Fiji’s development as a nation.
Mr Bainimarama said the access to electric had truly been the beacon that led Fiji.
“Today the FEA serves nearly 175,000 customers. They oversee the supply of 934 gigawatt hours of power all across Fiji and are every year expanding the reach of their services,” Mr Bainimarama said.
“Electrifying communities, bringing opportunities into the lives of Fijians from every walk of life and from every walk of life and from every corner of the country,” he said.
Mr Bainimarama was proud of everything that FEA had achieved and wished them 50 more years of excellence and professionalism.
FEA chief executive officer, Hasmukh Patel thanked everybody who came for the event and said the company had come a long way with a vision for Fiji.
Mr Patel said the goal was to be 100 percent renewable by 2030.
“We have a plan to get there, to able to fight climate change to the best of their ability,” Mr Patel said.
Guests were treated to entertainment by the VOU dance group and a video showing the journey that FEA had made for the past 50 years. A plaque was also unveiled during the celebration and the cutting of the cake to mark the celebration.
Cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corps and stakeholders were present during the event.
