Breaking Down Barriers

Telecom Fijiana rep Timaima Ravisa received the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s top female try-scorer award 39 points at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The 27-year-old said her award is a testament to females that the days where women cannot do what men can are .gone and she urges women to get more involved in rugby.

“I’m happy to receive the award but I give the glory back to God,” Ravisa said.

“I want to thank my Striders teammates, they really played their hearts out and winning the Cup final is a team effort.

“I know this is a male dominated sport but we are in a world now where we, as women, are capable of doing what men can do.

“I am proud of myself because not only I play rugby, I also take up an engineering course at the Fiji National University.  Girls just need to set their targets and work towards them.”

With the Marist 7s done and dusted, Ravisa will only have one day of rest before she gets back into training for the Women’s Sevens Series in Japan next month.

“For the Fijiana girls, they really have been training hard, I know the tournament is not an easy one we will be facing big giants but we need to step it up a notch and improve since from last outing in Las Vegas.”
