Former Fijian Pearls coach Megan Simpson is dedicated to supporting sports development in Vanua Levu as she has now resides in Savusavu.

Attending the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) special general meeting on Friday with her husband, Simpson said their passion is to provide opportunities for our future Flying Fijians and Fijian Pearls.

“My husband and I are obviously heavily involved in sport,” Simpson said.

“We got two young kids and our passion now is to provide opportunities for not only our kids but all of the children in the North so that they have something to aspire to.

“We want to do this so that one day they will be playing for the Flying Fijians or even the Fiji Pearls.

“So it is definitely a long term vision of ours and it is something that we are really passionate about and we will certainly invest our time and effort into supporting sports development in the North.”

Since resigning as coach for the Pearls, Simpson said those players who have had exposure overseas will “add value” to the current squad.

“Last time I saw the Fiji Pearls was actually at the World Cup in Sydney and they were fantastic,” she said.

“I think there are a couple of them now that have broaden their horizons like Maria Lutua and a few others in the United Kingdom.

“Their experience abroad and with other teams who have vast skills and that will definitely add value to the team.

“It is also equally exciting to see the young ones coming up to the ranks and I am looking forward to seeing what their next performance looks like.”

Meanwhile, Simpson is really happy with the FRU setting up a strategic plan as she looks forward to seeing it being carried out.

“I think it is a fantastic initiative by the Fiji Rugby Union, with any sports administration organisation needs to have a clear direction.

“I take my hat off to the FRU for developing a strategic plan and the support in constitution and I am really looking forward to seeing it being implemented.” Simpson said.
