Police White won the Shield final of the 2017 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s after defeating New Born Waibasaga 12-5 at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

Police received $600 while New Born Waibasaga settled for $550.

Bolstering the Police side was former national 7s rep Manueli Laqai who led the side well. They scored through their first try Joseph Dunn to lead 5-0 at halftime.

The highlanders regrouped to draw level through Adre Vasuitoga but Police sealed the game with a try to Belasio Vukiwai which was converted.

Police White coach and former national rep Etonia Naba said they would focus more on development.

“We have young players and I’m impressed with their performance.

“I thank the players for their commitment and dedication as we look forward to future local 7s tournaments,” Naba said.

Meanwhile, Waibasaga playmaker Peni Tubuna was grateful with their achievement.

“We have been competing since 2014 and our target was to reach the Cup semifinals. But we gave our best and we want to thank the people of Waibasaga for their support,” Tubuna said.
