Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation handed over $10,000 of funds last weekend to eight youth and women’s clubs at Taveuni Island.

Funds presented were for income generating projects and economic empowerment ranging from technology to farming, canteen and many more.

Vodafone ATH Fiji Foundation Executive Ambalika Devi during a capacity building workshop on the island said the foundation saw the grant handover as their social responsibility towards the communities in Fiji.

“It is not about the grant only; it is about building long lasting relations for greater social, economic and environmental impacts and being able to reach larger populace through use of technology,” Ms Devi said.

“So far the Foundation has invested over $19 million in direct grants.

“We will continue with our aspirations of information and knowledge sharing, community leadership and excellence, mobile connectedness and social entrepreneurship.”

The clubs are Vuna Youth Club, Lavena Youth Club, Navakawau Youth Club, Qeleni Youth Club, Kocoma Youth Club, Dreketi Youth Club, Waitabua Youth Club and Vunimada Women’s Club.

Somosomo Provincial Office youth co-ordinator Manueli Koroi said the grant was a great boost for the youths of Taveuni.

“This is the first ever grants we have received from the foundation and we will now start monitoring the projects as they get implemented,” Mr Koroi said.

Assistant Roko, Emori Tokalau said the youths and women’s club support system would be strengthened.

“The building capacities of the group members will allow them to generate revenue and become entrepreneurs,” Mr Tokalau said.
