One of three men involved in the alleged murder of a Lokia fisherman in Rewa was granted bail by the High Court in Suva yesterday.

Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe granted bail to Niko Baleiwairiki, 24, with strict conditions.

His bail conditions are that the accused is to reside with his first surety, an uncle in Nakelo, Tailevu.

He is also to report to the Nausori Police Station on a weekly basis.

Baleiwairiki, Waisea Motonivalu and Eroni Raivani are jointly charged with one count each of murder and aggravated robbery.

It is alleged that on January 1, at Lokia Landing, the trio murdered 46-year-old fisherman, Jay Prasad.

It is also alleged that the trio brutally assaulted the victim before stealing his 15 horsepower Yamaha outboard engine.

Raivani was also released on bail, while Motonivalu was denied bail as he had pleaded guilty to the charge of aggravated robbery.

Baleiwairiki is represented by defence lawyer Emosi Koroi and the state prosecution is represented by Susan Serukai.

The case was adjourned to April 10, for mention.
