Police officers will lose their jobs if they’re found guilty of abusing their vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, gave this warning when he handed over 32 vehicles to the Western division, seven to the Southern division, four to the Northern division, 10 to Police headquarters and four to the Eastern division yesterday.

“I will not accept any more excuses,” Brigadier-General Qiliho said at the Police Special Response Unit in Makoi, Nasinu.

“I can assure you, you will be removed from the force.”

“So far, we had a number of our newly-leased vehicles written off because either the driver was speeding or negligent or in the worst case scenario possible for any Police institution and officer driving a Police vehicle under the influence of liquor.

“It’s extremely frustrating when I hear that a senior officer was sitting in a vehicle which was involved in an accident.

“It’s frustrating because why didn’t the officer say something that could have prevented their accident from happening.

“We are often the subject of public ridicule and while it may be hard to stomach some of the things said about us it’s a reality that we have to face because members of the public will always hold us for a higher standard.”
