Andre Viljoen, Fiji Airways chief executive officer, says the safety of their passengers is of utmost importance.

Mr Viljoen, who is also managing director, made the comment after a Fiji Airways flight FJ921 bound for Brisbane returned to Nadi 15 minutes after it took off because of a mechanical defect.

Mr Viljoen said all passengers were met upon return to Nadi and looked after with meal vouchers while Fiji Airways worked on a resolution.

“An alternate aircraft was utilised and the flight departed at 12.41pm today (yesterday),” Mr Viljoen said.

“The safety of our passengers and crew are of utmost importance and we thank our passengers for their understanding,” he added.
