Senior Staff at the University of the South Pacific – Pacific Technical And Further Education’s (TAFE) were kept busy during the mid-semester break to up-skill themselves.

The 30 regional staff comprised of executive managers and co-ordinators from Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Kiribati and Fiji.

The workshop was held at the Workforce Development Training Unit in Walu Bay, Suva since Tuesday.

“We have invited them on board in order to expand the sub-degree programme known as the  skills-based qualification. So from this year, second semester, we will be expanding this skill-based programmes to Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and Kiribati,” said Mr Hasmukh Lal, director Pacific TAFE and Pacific Centre for Flexible and Open Learning for Development (PACFOLD).

“At the moment, we know that we have got markets here in Fiji and in bigger countries of the USP, but we also want to explore the niche markets like the larger organisations,” he added.

The University made the decision to merge the two entities, College of Foundation Studies and the former Pacific TAFE last year.
