Coming off from a three-match suspension and missing the Canada Sevens tournament in Vancouver, Sevuloni Mocenacagi was not expecting to be chosen for the Hong Kong-Singapore leg in the World Sevens Series next week.

World Rugby suspended Mocenacagi for three matches from a dangerous tackle on South Africa’s Werner Kok during the final of the USA 7s in Las Vegas.

While most may question the decision to allow Mocenacagi back into the team when discipline has been a huge problem for the side, coach Gareth Baber sees potential in him.

According to Baber, what happened in Las Vegas does not define Mocenacagi as a player as he is one of the most hardworking players in the team.

“Sevu is great in the air, he chases his ball well and he is a good option for us,” Baber said.

“He is also getting more accurate in his defence. But the thing that most people don’t see that I obviously see in him is his work ethic.

“He is everywhere on  the field during training sessions, he is the one who will make three tackles on the bounce, get back on his feet and go again.

“That is the way I want to develop him, I want him to be a work force. I want him to get around the field because he is a fit, tall man.
