Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber is confident his players will perform to their level best during the Hong Kong-Singapore leg of the World Sevens Series which starts next weekend.

“They know exactly how to win in Hong Kong,” Baber said before the team left for So Kon Po yesterday.

“The pressure is always there, we know the job that we have to do. We working very hard to have that done and my job is to get the mental game right.”

Baber is confident the inclusion of Vodafone 7s forward Jasa Veremalua and lanky Isake Katonibau will boost the side.

“We have experience and leadership in Jasa and Katonibau which is good for the young players.

“Every experience that you have provides a positive connection, the atmosphere is electrifying in So Kon Po and our boys respond to that.

“We have some younger boys developing through the programme and we want to add more as the year progresses and having people who know the standard and things necessary to perform in Hong Kong is necessary for us,” he said.

Katonibau hopes the team will win the first tournament of the 2016-17 World Sevens Series next weekend.

“Hopefully we will gel and click on the day,”Katonibau said.

Fiji is grouped alongside New Zealand, Wales and Japan in Pool C.

“New Zealand will be tough in the pool game and we are looking forward to meeting up with them,”he said.

“Hong Kong is always exciting and is one of the prime destinations of the World Sevens Series.”

Katonibau urges fans to be patient with the team.

“I request fans to pray for this team and be patient.”

Fiji plays Japan at 11.54pm on Friday (April 7) and Wales at 5.12pm, New Zealand at 9.12pm on Saturday at (April 8).
