After failing to win a gold medal in the girl’s 400 metres for the past four years has not deterred Luisa Kaurogo one bit. She kept on training and yesterday she finally achieved her dream in the Suva Zone Two meet at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

The 18-year-old from Nasele, Naitasiri has been trying to win a gold medal in her favourite event since Year 9 and is now in Year 13 at Waidina Secondary School.

Kaurogo said she is ecstatic about finally winning a gold medal in an event she has persevered for the past years

“For the last four years I have been running in the 400 metres and never came first but I kept trying every year and I’ve finally got my gold medal,” Kaurogo said.

“I’m happy to know that in my final year in school I managed to come away with something and be able to give back to the school.

“It has been a tough couple of years for me and I have been training so hard to reach this and I thank God for pushing me each time.”

Kaurogo said she almost gave up but is glad that she pushed on and is now looking forward to the Coca-Cola Games.

“I’m really excited about the Cokes because I know that is where my performance will really count and it will not be easy. Suva Grammar School has always given us tough competition and they will be my biggest opponents come the Cokes.”
