Davina Cleary of Saint Joseph’s Secondary School broke a 10- year record in the 400 metres sub-junior girl’s event during the Suva Zone 2 meet yesterday.

The 14-year-old Savusavu girl set a new record 1.05.96 which broke the time of 1.11.80 set in 2007.

“I wasn’t expecting to break the record but I’m happy that I did,” she said.

“While running in the final lapse of the 400m I was thinking of my school and also my parents who have been supporting me endlessly.”

Cleary is hopeful to win a gold medal in the Coca-Cola Games.

“My preparations are coming out well but I still need to work more on my sprints because I’m looking forward to win my first gold during the Coca-Cola Games.”
