Journal To Strengthen Athletes

Athletes in the Oceania region will now have an easy way to do their own self-analysis. This was after Organisations of Sports Federation in Oceania (OSFO) launched the Positive Edge Journal during the ONOC Forum at the Sofitel Resort and Spa, Nadi yesterday.

OSFO executive member, Edwina Ricci believes this would definitely boost the athletes’ performance.

“Seven years we have been looking at ways we can move into athletes performance on the mental side of sport, being able to enhance on the performance and pick up when they become fragile,” she said.

“The last three years we have been putting together a journal because we found that there is something athletes could do every week.

“So we have come up with the Positive Edge journal which has 52 different weeks of applying the principal of positive psychology.

“The positive edge journal is being able to have that edge on your opponent, I guess athletes when they get into tough times they find it hard to bounce back.

“That is lack of resilience or if they are under pressure they don’t perform at their best so we are hoping that this journal will help them,” she added.

The Positive Edge Journal consists of key values such as positivity, optimism and will also help athletes to identify their strengths.

“Most of the time athletes look for fault and try to improve them rather than looking for strengths and building on them, this will bring out the best versions of themselves,” Ricci added.
