The demand for more seats on flights to and from the Northern Division has encouraged Northern Air to introduce another Embraer Bandeirante aircraft.

Yesterday this 20-seater plane carried passengers flown in by the company’s CEO, Captain Rainjesh San, and Captain Jaysheel San for the first time to Labasa Airport.

Captain San said this plane was bought from Papua New Guinea.

It continues efforts by the Nausori Airport-based airline to compete with Fiji Link on key routes such as Nausori – Labasa and Nausori – Suva.

“Considerable amount has been spent in redoing as nothing is manufactured locally and all parts and spares are bought from abroad,” Captain San said.

“This flight will not only be for Labasa but also for Nadi and Taveuni Island as well.

“It will add to the current service that our company is providing.

“Our company saw the demand for more seats, and hence we decided to take this step to assist the needy public,” he said.

“This has a multiplier effect where we will be paying more taxes and more revenue for the Government and Airports Fiji Limited.

“This will also generate more employment and help keep the hotels occupied.

“Our plan is to keep meeting the demand and introduce a better and bigger aircraft in the future.

“To the people and customers, I would like to say enjoy the affordable fares that we are offering,” he said.

“We need public to support the local airline.

“That’s the only way we can achieve our goals of providing you with better and bigger aircraft for better and more comfortable service.”

Northern Air now has eight aircraft, Captain San said.
