Advanced Parts sponsored- Labasa football striker Antonio Tuivuna showed his class when he scored two goals in their 3-0 win over Ba in the Vodafone Premier League clash yesterday.

The former Vodafone Fijian Under-20 striker to the 2015 FIFA U20 World Cup was the fans favourite. The Babasiga Lions other goal was scored by Jonetani Buksh.

What happened: Tuivuna was in top form playing for Labasa and his exceptional skills upfront saw him broke through the Ba defence time and again.

He opened Labasa’s account in the sixth minute after he headed in a beautifully floated corner kick from Edwin Sahayam.

Leading 1-0 and backed by their vocal fans at Subrail Park, the hosts increased their lead in the 19th minute when Tuivuna again scored from another well taken corner kick from Sahayam.

First Half: Labasa 2-0 Ba

After a strong pep talk from the coaches both teams came out strongly.

Then Buksh further extended their lead in 65th minute. This destroyed Ba’s hope of a possible comeback.

Labasa held on as they played defensively to record their second win of the season.

Star Turn: Tuivuna was the star of Labasa;s win. His attacking play saw him haunt the Ba defenders on many occasions.

Big play:

Buksh scored the third goal and this slowed the tempo of the match.

Comments

4R Electrical Ba coach Imdad Ali said the 3-0 loss was unfortunate.

“This is not our day and we lost to a much fitter team. We had new players and it is understandable considering the physical condition of the players as we came in today and played right away.

This is football and any team can win.

Ba is a winning team and surely we will return tomorrow against Dreketi.”

Labasa Football Association vice- president Varun Anand said their coach Roneel Lal was attending a course in Suva.

“Our team manager Ravinesh Chand trained the players. We now have seven points and I thank Chand for his efforts in preparing the team. I also thank our sponsors and fans for coming out in large numbers to support us today.”
