The Madras Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (MIOT) Pacific Hospitals (formerly known as the Suva Private Hospital) are stepping up their development.

Yesterday two staff members departed for a two-week stint at the MIOT International, Chennai, in India.

They will be learning about  best practices in a quaternary care in hospital setting.

The pair are Rajeshni Mala, team leader Pathology and independant Practitioner, Dr. Jonetani Kama, a radiologist specialist.

The training is the first of many  targeted at meeting strategic needs for the hospital.

MIOT Pacific director Avi Raju said the aim is for local staff to eventually perform high end procedures previously not available in Fiji.

Upon their return, David Qumivutia MIOT Pacific General Manager will also spend two weeks at the Indian hospital to look at the administration and management aspects.

As part of its expansionary plans announced in January, work is progressing well on the modern diagnostic centre at the basement area of the hospital. The first phase is valued  at $14m.

Except for a new fee structure for the new specialised services the hospital is offering,

Mr Raju said there will be  no changes in out patient fees.

MIOT Pacific hospital was launched last two months.
