Age is not a barrier for any sport as long as you are fit and healthy and continue to play to the best of your ability.

These were the sentiments of 30-year-old Miriama Radiniwaimaro who has been drafted into the Fijian Pearls training squad.

The goal defender from Buretu, Nakelo said she is a living example that age is not a barrier or an excuse to keep doing what you love. “When people ask about my age and I tell them that I am 30, most of them cannot believe that I still play netball,” Radiniwaimaro said.

“I love netball and I have been playing this sport for a very long time and I think this the highlight of my life so far.

“Everyone dreams of playing for their country but as soon as they turn a certain age they stop trying because they think no one will want them but that is not true.

“As long as you are still fit and healthy and still able to perform to the best that you can then I think age should not be a factor and should not be the reason that is stopping people from doing what they really want.”

Getting the call at the beginning of March on her selection into the national netball’s training squad, Radiniwaimaro said she still cannot believe it.

“I still feel so excited and I still cannot believe that I have been selected and I thank the Lord for this opportunity. I have been aiming from last year to join the team but sadly I did not get chosen but now everything is finally coming into place and I will try my best to make it into the final squad.

“The one player who I have looked up to is Matila Waqanidrola and I want to be just like her and I will be working extra hard to prove my worth in this team.

“I know it will not be easy because I will be going up against some of the best players around the country but I’m confident and I believe in myself.”

Radiniwaimaro will join the Fijian Pearls training squad this week.
