150 Swimmers For Suva Finals

It’s confirmed that 150 junior swimmers are going to compete at the Fiji National Swimming Championship finals at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Suva on Wednesday.
Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova told SUNsports on Saturday the two-day event is where they are going to determine the top three swimmers who are going to represent Fiji to the Commonwealth Youth Championship on July 18-23 in the Bahamas.
“We are going to have 150 swimmers which is a great number for the national finals competition,” he said.
“So this was more like the last competition. In this competition we will collect all the results and forward it to the Fiji Swimming selectors where they will decide the top three swimmers that will represent us to the Commonwealth Youth Games.
“There will also be another competition where our swimmers will try to make the times and they have up to May 6 to make an impression. And if they do then they can make it to the senior squad for the FINA world championship in Budapest and also they are eligible for selection for the team to the Oceania and FINA world junior championship in Missouri,” Rova said he was impressed with the performance of the participants and is now looking forward to the finals.
“The highlight was that it was so nice to see so many young swimmers especially the under-10 category coming out and performing the different forms of strokes, which was really encouraging.
“Swimmers now have one month to prepare themselves again so if they missed selection they can keep training because they have another opportunity.
“I would just like to thank all the organisers, volunteers and parents who have come in numbers to show their support,” he added.
