As part of community service obligation, employees of Labasa Fiji Sugar Corporation (FSC) mill donated $810 cash to the Labasa family that lost their house and three daughters in a fire on March 24.

Fiji Sugar Corporation Labasa mill human resource officer Sachin Naidu said the donation was made possible when 336 employees willingly agreed to collect money within three days.

“We sympathise with Rajesh Kumar and Karuna Kumar over their loss and we thought the effective way we can help as an organisation was presenting a collection of cash donation,” Mr Naidu said.

“We can’t imagine what these parents are going through.

“Not only had they lost their house but also three daughters (Kajal, 13, Kareena, 9, Isha, 6) whom they will never see again.

“Moreover, waiting for more than a week for a quick recovery of their only 11-year old son, Rishab who sustained burns from this tragic incident.”

Mr Naidu said he was hoping more organisations came forward to assist this family.”

Meanwhile, Mrs Kumar thanked the employees who donated cash on behalf of their company.

“We haven’t thought about when and how to build our house because we are still running back and forth to Labasa Hospital waiting for Rishab to fully recover,” Mrs Kumar said.

“He is recovering well thanks to the medical staff’s care but we don’t know when exactly he will return.

We are currently staying at our mother’s place closer to where our house was burnt in Boca, Bulileka.”

Anyone who wishes to assist this family can contact Mr Kumar on mobile number 9952192 or send in donation into their bank account at ANZ, account number 12973318.
