NEWWORLD IGA has invested $2.5 million in opening the second NEWWORLD IGA store in Suva yesterday.

Chief executive of Newworld Group Anil Patel said people who could not travel to their Damodar City store could now shop in Suva.

“The range of products, cleaner store, wider aisles, offers a totally new shopping experience to the customers,” Mr Patel said.

He added: “We are looking at late closing time for the supermarket so that customers have access to our services after working hours as well.”

“Most probably we will be closing at 9pm daily. This will be confirmed once we monitor the trend of customers visiting the shop in the evening and late at night.”

Mr Patel also said that he was happy with the turnout at the opening day.

“NEWWORLD IGA was ready to provide customers with the best services.

“We have employed 55 full time staff and as customer service is paramount for our company, this number will increase in days to come,” Mr Patel said.

Future Investment

General manager for NEWWORLD group Peter Royce said the company was looking at three other projects for new NEWWORLD IGA stores in Fiji.

“We are also looking at upgrading some of our existing Newworld outlets to the new IGA standards,” Mr Royce said.

“Also NEWWORLD IGA has 300 additional products compared to the other Newworld outlets.”

He said the upgrades and new openings would give a chance to customers to choose from a range of products and a cleaner shopping environment.

“For this financial year we are looking at upgrading our stores in Nausori, Downtown, Tavua and possibly Namaka depending on how tough our timelines are,” he said.

“In terms of new IGA stores we are looking to open at Labasa, Denarau Island and Sigatoka.”
