The Forum Economic Ministers Meeting (FEMM) had been a successful one and Pacific Island Countries (PICs) have come to an agreement on some very important things that needed to be done for the region.

Samoan Minister for Finance, and chair of FEMM, Sili Tuioti, said this at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat yesterday.

One of the areas the PIC’s would be focusing on would be working closely with the civil society and the private sector.

“We consider them to be very important partners in our work to ensure that we walk the talk of being inclusive in our development, consultation,” Mr Tuioti said.

“This will ensure we also look at how best we work with them to meet their needs and provide an enabling environment for the private sector to grow and prosper.”

He said this would also help the private sector and the PIC’s to reinvest profits in the economy and create more jobs.

Other topics were the impact of climate change on the region, and financing on climate change issues.

“We also need to have the resources to assist our people immediately after the disasters.

“We should also be able to provide the necessary funding to reconstruct our important economic infrastructure like roads, water supply, power, health and education.”
