A poetry reading event to honour the late academic, Teresia Teaiwa will be held this evening.

Organised by Poetry Shop Fiji, its founder Peter Sipeli, said the event will see 15 poets perform their pieces at a literacy scene.

The event will be held from 6pm to 9pm at the office of Alliance Française de Suva, located at 20 Desvoeux Road, Suva. Admission is free and members of the public are all welcome to attend.

Mr Sipeli said the late Ms Teaiwa, who died on March 21, 2017, was a poet, thinker and activist whose work had inspired so many.

“This is our second event for the year in association with the Alliance Française,” Mr Sipeli said.

Local poets such as Cresantia Koya Vaka’uta, Mohit Prasad and Josua Tuwere, all of whom were colleagues of Ms Teaiwa are expected to be part of the reading as well.

The Poetry Shop Fiji exists as a platform for young Fijians in Suva who are interested in spoken word, poetry and storytelling.
