Fiji – PNG Business Council president, Joe Taoi, said, trade, investment and business between Fiji and Papua New Guinea remained vibrant and promising for both countries.

Mr Taoi applauded the Trade Ministers of both countries Faiyaz Koya and Richard Maru for opening up the trade pathway for the promotion and facilitation of trade opportunities between both countries.

Mr Taoi expressed the Fiji-PNG Business Council’s confidence and excitement about the very positive views and encouraging statements expressed by Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, during a breakfast meeting with the Council last month in Suva.

Mr Taoi said, Mr O’Neill had expressed much satisfaction on trade relationship between both countries and added that more opportunities existed to increase trade, business and investment.

He said that any trade problems that may be encountered in the future between both countries could be managed and resolved through an open, cordial and conciliatory “talanoa” type discussions with the view to achieving a “win-win” resolution.

Mr Taoi said the Fiji-PNG Business Council was instrumental in the appointment of Fiji’s Trade Commissioner to PNG and that he took the opportunity to urge the PNG Prime Minister to reciprocate and appoint a PNG Trade Commissioner to Fiji.
