$7 Notes, Coins To Honour 7s Win At Olympics

Fiji will soon have $7 notes and coloured commemorative coins introduced to the market.

This is to commemorate the Vodafone Fijian 7s team’s historic win at the 2016 Rio Olympics Games.

Fiji Sun received information from reliable sources that the new coins and $7 note would prominently feature the 7s team and the former 7s coach, Ben Ryan.

Only a limited number of these specially featured coins and note will be released in the market. This will also be the first coloured coins to be introduced to the economy.

The special edition of notes and coins are expected to be unveiled soon.

Mr Ryan and the 7s players are expected to be present at the unveiling which is believed to be a big event organised by the Reserve Bank of Fiji.

Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, Barry Whiteside refused to comment on the introduction when contacted yesterday.

Last year he had stated: “I’m not too sure whether we’ll use the face on a note, but we’re discussing the possibilities. We’re looking at the possibility of a coin as well.”

He had also said there would be a blue fifty cent coin.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji minted another gold victory, celebrating the Para Olympian, Iliesa Delana, four years ago.
