Corrections Eyes Vocational Training For Nasinu Centre

The Fiji Corrections Services and Ministry of Education look forward to develop Nasinu Corrections Centre into a vocational training institute.
Corrections Commissioner Commander Francis Kean said they wanted the centre to be developed into a training institute because inmates at the centre were first offenders.
“We have also discussed the idea with the Minister for Education to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to have the Nasinu Corrections Centre as a vocational training college for the inmates,” Commander Kean said.
“And we don’t want contamination. When I say contamination, it is when they mix around with the campaigns.
“You get to learn some bad habits because our intention is if we save one life that is a great achievement for us.”
Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy said they were in talks and the MoU was ready for signing.
“We look forward to working closely with Commissioner Kean in up skilling the inmates so that they can get engaged in some productive work when they are released,” he said.
