Jai ‘Baby’ Chauhan is encouraging youngsters to try out new sports instead of popular ones like football and rugby.

The 11-year-old Yat Sen student will be representing Fiji in the ITTF Oceania Junior/Cadet Championship at the Vodafone Arena on April 13-16. This is his second time playing in an international tournament and says, his love for table tennis has made him realise that there are other enjoyable sports out there.

“I really love table tennis, my parents got me into the sport and I am glad that they did,” Chauhan said.

“This is a new sport that you do not see often, you hear people talk about soccer or rugby all the time but you never hear someone talk about table tennis. This sport can be just as fun as soccer or rugby or hockey, it is physical and it is not an easy game to master, it takes skill. I want people out there, especially those around my age to try something different because you never know that you might love it. It can also help you represent your country and because not everyone plays it, it is easy to get into and get good at it.”

Chauhan is excited about next week’s competition and is aiming to take the sport up as a career.
