Govt Ministers Pledge $6K For Special School Outreach

Outrigger Walk collects $14,000
The Minister for Health and Medical Services, Rosy Akbar, with contributions from some cabinet colleagues yesterday pledged $6000 in support of the Outrigger Walk for Kids.
With this, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort successfully secured $14,000 through their early morning walk with guests, villagers, staff and well-wishers.
This sum would be handed over to the management of the Sigatoka District Special School to help buy a vehicle for outreach in the interior.
The aim is to reach out to children who need special care and education with Government’s no child left behind initiative in mind.
In October last year, the Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy gave $20,000 for the vehicle too.
Ms Akbar commended the commitment of Outrigger and the sponsors.
“The outcome of such an initiative will strengthen the collaborative platform through which our children with special needs will be provided with opportunity to access appropriate training and integrate and contribute positively in the economy,” she added.
Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort general manager Peter Hopgood said: “We are currently working on building two new classrooms at the Conua School whilst we hope to be able to open up our new medevac helipad facility at the Sigatoka District Hospital in next three weeks.”
