Subhash Chandra has been appointed president of the 2017 Vodafone Festival of the Friendly North committee.

The retired school principal was elected during the annual general meeting last Thursday at the Labasa Civic Centre.

The committee was formed in 2005 which annually appoints the president for the festival committee.

Currently a teacher and assistant administrator at the Northern Christian Training Centre in Labasa, Mr Chandra said he was delighted to be given the presidential position.

“I have been in the committee for 12 years and I know the importance of organising the week-long festival,” Mr Chandra said.

“Although I am a very reserved person, I always keep a policy that is to get the work done without any noise.

“We have collectively decided to have the festival from August 19 to 25 during the second school term break.

“I believe that with the support and co-operation of the committee members everything is possible.”

Mr Chandra is originally from Naodamu, Labasa, and is a father of four children.

Vishwa Deo and Rajneel Maharaj have been appointed as the two vice presidents.
