Investment Entrepreneur bets on $300k Spa

A $300,000 hair and wellness spa has opened at the My FNPF Plaza in Greig Street.
iKoko Hair and Wellness Spa opened last December with eight employees, mostly from abroad.
Eight years ago, iKoko director, Furing Lin travelled more than 8000km from her homeland, Liaoning in North Eastern China, to settle in Fiji.
From haircuts to manicure, pedicure and full body massages, Ms Lin says iKoko has it all.
“Now that I am living in Fiji, I want to do something that I like,” she said.
Ms Lin said she did not want to stay home after getting married.
“In China, there are a lot of people who want to relax and do therapy to be healthy. So that is why I want to do this business in Fiji because people need that.”
She previously operated a similar business in Liaoning from 2007 until she made the decision to move to Fiji in 2009.
Ms Lin said the demand for relaxation and hair pampers were high during the weekends.
“It is not usually busy (during the weekdays) and there would usually be 10 to 20 customers in a day and sometimes none,” she said.
Ms Lin, who is in her early 50’s, said she learned about Fiji from her friends in 2009.
She does not own any other shops but plans to expand her business in the near future.
However, she believes that the location of her business is not well exposed.
“This is a new building and not a lot of people know. So I want to show people that there is an iKoko,” she said.
