The vessel MV Festival is anchored off Lami Town with 24,000 tons of clinkers for Pacific Cement Limited.

However, Carpenters Shipping agent Tomu Raturaga said they had changed the system of their discharge because of the High Court ruling.

“Now trucks are loaded in a barge and the clinker are discharged into the trucks onboard the barge,” he said.

He said because it would take time, the company had applied for an extension of the vessel and crews’ visa to 30 days.

“The visa extension had been approved.”

The Suva High Court had banned Pacific Cement Limited from offloading the clinker from barges to the trucks in Lami.

While delivering the ruling, High Court Judge Justice Deepthi Amaratunga said that Pacific Cement Limited did not have a permit to offload the clinker from trucks to the barge in Lami. He says in the judgement the clinker dust is also hazardous to the environment.

The company has been asked to offload the clinker into the truck and take it directly to the factory.

Meanwhile Mr Raturaga said their car vessel Leo Spirit will be arriving into the country from Tokyo to unload some vehicles.
