A truck belonging to a hardware company carrying timber supplies has damaged the Waitolutolu Bridge deck.

Fiji Roads Authority chief executive officer John Hutchinson said FRA had mobilised its contractors to assess damages and effect repairs as the road leads to Naitiqatiqa, Naseva, Muainanuku and Waidawara.

“At first glance it appears that the truck could be overloaded but the FRA cannot be certain until it is weighed. The LTA is mobilising to site to assist,” Mr Hutchinson said.

“At this stage, our priority is to remove the truck from this bridge and carry out urgent repairs to the bridge deck.”

Mr Hutchinson says that most bridges out on the rural network are wooden and truck drivers must be cautious when carrying loads across these bridges.

The Waitolutolu bridge deck was closed from 5pm to 8pm yesterday for repair works to be done.
