People from the three islands in the Lomaiviti group- Gau, Batiki and Nairai are happy with the monthly franchise service provided by South Island Shipping Services (SISS).

Jone Rabe of Lawaki Village in Nairai said their village was happy with service provided by the MV Lithonia I especially with the delivery of their cargo.

From the people of Nacavanadi Village in Gau, they said crew member of the MV Liahona were the best.

They said crews are very friendly and treated the passengers equally.

The village is also requesting the Government to build a standard jetty at the village to ease transportation for them.

A primary school teacher, Mika Lutubula from Nacavanadi Village School, said the school needed a small outboard motor engine to transport the students to the ship that anchored off the village.

“It can also be used for the transportation of school stationeries.”

The ship he said usually anchored off and far from the village and the transportation of cargo and school stationeries was difficult.

During low tide he said passengers would have to deliver their cargo by small punt boat to the village.

“This is not an easy job, but we’re used to it.” The people of Nacavanadiare also requesting the South Island Shipping Services to discharge all their cargo properly before moving to the next island.

SISS operation manager, Ben Cavu, says their trip to the islands is a franchise run and not their own run.

Mr Cavu said they working according to the schedule that’s with the ministry of transport.

If they do not follow that submitted schedule, Mr Cavu said they would lose their franchise contract.
