Brendon Whitley has been farewelled by Fiji Sun production staff after successful completion of a major upgrade to the Fiji Sun’s press.

Mr Whitley is managing director of the Fiji Sun’s press suppliers, Webco, of Tauranga, New Zealand.

During the past five weeks, he and up to 10 of his engineers and electricians from New Zealand and Indonesia have worked with the Fiji Sun production teams:

  •  Installing three more four-high colour towers, giving the Fiji Sun five and capacity to print 40-page sections all in full colour;
  •  Installing groundbreaking American-made Prime UV technology, giving Fiji Sun the capacity to print colour on glossy paper on the press, the first UV in the Pacific, including New Zealand;
  •  Installing new motors and digital drives, enabling the press to run faster;
  •  All the time maintaining uninterrupted publication and running training.
