Athletics Fiji received a major boost and renewed their agreement with Shop N Save Supermarket following their preparations for the upcoming Fiji Championship and Oceania Games.

Shop N Save Supermarket have come on board for the third time in a row to support Athletics Fiji by giving them a total sponsorship of $65,000.

Athletics Fiji President Joe Rodan Senior said the sponsorship would help them continue work in growing athletics in the country.

“Athletics is the basic foundation of all sport; for anyone to perform well in any sport they must at least do part of athletics,” Rodan said.

He said the the money allows them to carry out their development, programmes and competitions.

“It will also allow us to help other members who are less fortunate in preparing themselves in the coming games.

“This year, Athletics Fiji has a very busy calendar. We have the Fiji Championship, followed by the Oceania Games which is a big event and then the World Championships in August in London and finally the Mini Games at the end of the year.”

Chief guest and Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu said the partnership between Athletics Fiji and Shop N Save Supermarket will provide opportunities to people to be inclusive in sport.

“Athletics and sports in general is aimed at bringing about improved performances, increased participation and improved sense of wellbeing and leadership to people from all walks of life,” Seruiratu said.

Shop N Save managing director Nisheel Deo said they are happy to give back to the community they serve.

“This has enabled us to build on our strong corporate social responsibility and uphold our philosophy of continuously giving back to the greater community of Fiji to which we serve,” Deo said.

“We have always identified athletics as an excellent platform in encouraging all Fijians to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.”
