Six examination lights of around $750 each were yesterday handed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital from the Fiji National Provident Fund.

FNPF general manager Member Services Alipate Waqairawai said, the project was part of the funds corporate social responsibility and marked its 50th anniversary.

Mr Waqairawai said when FNPF first made contact with CWM Hospital, they were informed that the Labour Ward rooms were in dire need of attention. They managed to get it fixed.

“At the same, we were informed that a more pressing need was for examination lights for the Delivery Wards and six lights to be exact and portable ones too,” he said.

He said yesterday FNPF was proud to hand over the lights officially.

Head of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Unit Dr James Fong said the lights were needed by the maternity ward and he acknowledged FNPF for their support.

Dr Fong said the donation was timely because the lights they currently have needed to be replaced.

“Presently, we have about 14 deliveries in eight hours and over the years, we have struggled with this part of our work,” Dr Fong said.

He said the medical team would put the lights into good use.

Meanwhile, the CWM Hospital received two recliner chairs yesterday through the Bank South Pacific’s commitment and support for community work and long association with Fiji Cancer Society.

Head of Marketing BSP Nirdesh Singh said the chairs would be used by cancer patients while undergoing chemotherapy.
