$2K Boost For Rakiraki Sangam Group

The Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy, pledged $2000 in support of the Then India Sanmarga Ikya Sangam (TISI Sangam) Rakiraki mothers and youth group on Wednesday night.

This amount would be used on the Then India Ikya Mathar Sangam and TISI Then India IkyaValivar (TIV Youths) group who departed for the 90th Sangam Convention in Labasa yesterday.

Mr Reddy handed over the cash during the Rakiraki TISI Sangam Presentation night at Penang Sangam High School.

Mr Reddy said the hand over was an investment to the growth and development of the youths in their social aspects in the community and society.

More than 40 sportsmen and women were recognised for their achievements.

“We are recognising Sangam achievers and also wishing them well for their participation at the Sangam Convention in Labasa,” Mr Reddy said.

“Sangam Convention is a massive meeting, South Indians in Fiji come to display their cultural activities, values, sports as well.”

In addition, he said TISI Sangam was one of those groups who had contributed immensely to the education development and always supported other faith based groups.

“Through their high and primary school Sangam has equally served the people of similar to other faith based group.

“TISI Sangam has provided education for the people of Fiji at the time when the Government was unable to provide.

“Even now we have very few Government schools, the rest of the close to 900 belong to faith-based or members of the public.”

He commended the forefathers for their initiative to invest in the education sector.
