A ten-wheeler truck travelling along the Hibiscus Highway struck down an electricity post near Seaqaqa in Vanua Levu resulting in a power blackout in the area for a few hours.

According to Police, the incident happened at around 6am yesterday.

Divisional Police Commander North Senior Superintendent Veramu Nakauyaca said the driver had failed to control the vehicle when climbing up the Natua Hill.

“He lost control of the vehicle when he tried to change gears while going up the hill. The truck rolled back down the hill, hit the post and tumbled over before it landed upside down.”

He said the driver has been checked and released from the hospital.

“Motorists traveling along the Natua stretch of the road in Seaqaqa are being requested to take precaution because of the fallen powerline,” Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said.

Residents had to wait six hours before power supply normalised.
