Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber commended the player’s discipline following their victory in Hong Kong last weekend and hopes the players maintains it this weekend.

“Last week our penalty count was down, we only had one yellow card and we’ll be looking at trying to get past that this weekend, no yellow cards will be good for us,” he told SUNsports.

“It’s easy to play the game when you don’t give away penalties and yellow cards the team has to work as hard generally to look after the ball at a long period of time.”

Fiji lead pool A alongside Hong Kong, Russia and Canada, and Baber said they would treat each game like a final as they start their Singapore campaign at 4.52pm today against Hong Kong, Russia at 7.50pm and Canada at 12.06am Sunday morning.

“We should be eyeing for a quarterfinal but I have already been in this kind of position before where you got to be wary of getting ahead of yourselves when we play Hong Kong first. It’s going to be our cup final, we have talked about this, we need to win the competition we need to play six cup finals.

“Every team we play against is a cup final so we know where we got to be in the weekend so we work to deliver that this weekend in a way we delivered last weekend. We have trained well, we are healthy,” Baber added.
