A 39-year-old carpenter is trying to restart his life with his two children after his three bedroom house was badly damaged by fire on Thursday night at Vomo Street in Lautoka.

Hafiz Khan said he was trying to determine the cause of the fire to the house, which he estimated caused $45,000 damage.

“It was around 8pm on Thursday when I left my house with my 12-year-old son to visit my brother,” Mr Khan said.

“At around 8:30pm one of my neighbours had informed me that my house was on fire.

“By the time I came, my house was already on fire and I was not able to save any of my belongings.”

Mr Khan said no one was at home during the time of the incident.

“I am currently staying at my brother’s place with my two children,” he said.

“I was raised by my parents in this house and had wonderful memories attached to with this house.”

The National Fire Authority (NFA) is conducting their investigation.
