Over 800 athletes from secondary schools around the country participated at the Easter National Athletics Championship at ANZ Stadium, in Suva on Saturday night.

Fiji Athletics president Joe Rodan Snr said the competition was the best opportunity for the athletes to prepare before Coca-Cola Games start on Thursday.

“We have schools from Suva, from the West and from Tailevu taking part. To me this is an ideal opportunity for them to prepare,” Rodan said.

He said the best athletes from the Easter competition would be representing Fiji to the Oceania Games in July.

“We got the Oceania Games in July and in October we have the World Championship and the Pacific Mini Games in December.

“So most of our athletes that are taking part here will hopefully qualify for the Oceania Games and the Mini Games as well,” he added.
