Court Bails Welder On Drink Driving Charges

A 22-year-old welder of Waiyavi in Lautoka charged with drink driving was released on bail yesterday by the Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday.
Nemani Seru appeared before Magistrate Rangajeeva Wimalasena during the special court sitting charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle while having a concentration of alcohol in excess of prescribed limit in his blood.
He was also charged with one count of driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence and one count of driving motor vehicle in contravention of the third party policy risk.
The court heard on April 14 at Sarava, Kings Road, Seru was allegedly driving a vehicle from Lautoka towards Ba when the breath test was conducted on the driver.
Police prosecutor Corporal Ravi Narayan told the court to deny the bail application by the accused due to the alarming road deaths on our roads.
The accused sought forgiveness from the court, he asked the court to grant bail as he was the lone bread winner and ready to pay the fine levied by the court.
Magistrate Wimalasena r granted bail of $100 cash bail bond, $1000 non-cash bond with one surety.
The accused will re-appear on April 25 in the Ba Magistrates Court.
