Defending Vodafone Muslim Interdistrict champions Makoi have secured a spot in today’s semifinal at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.

This was after they pipped Varavu 2-1 during the quarterfinal.

Mohammed Farook scored the opening goal for Makoi in the first half while Sohail Shakila Bi scored the other in the second half.   Speaking to SUNsports, Makoi coach Mohammed Tasleem was impressed with the players’ performance and is now looking forward to the semifinals.

“The boys really worked hard for this competition and it was through their sacrifice that allowed us to win this match,” Tasleem said.

“Varavu is a tough side to play against but I’m pleased that the boy’s managed to keep up with them and as always played their hearts out.

“We will now do our best in the semi-finals as we are vying to defend our title this year.”

Tasleem said some of their players are injured but they are fortunate to have the depth in their squad.

“We’ve got some good players in the reserve bench who will be replacing some of the injured players.”
