Serious Assault Charged Fisherman Denied Bail

The court heard on April 15 the accused allegedly assaulted his 62-year-old father in their home after an argument broke out
The Lautoka Magistrates Court yesterday denied the bail application by a 41-year-old fisherman for allegedly assaulting his elderly father.
Vilesh Kumar of Ba appeared before Magistrate Rangajeeva Wimalasena in a special sitting charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm.
The court heard on April 15 that Kumar allegedly assaulted his 62-year-old father in their home in Ba after an argument broke out.
The victim sustained injuries and was later discharged from hospital.
Police Prosecutor Constable Salote Tokalau objected to bail.
The accused waived his right to a lawyer.
The accused had asked the court for forgiveness and promised not to reoffend.
Magistrate Wimalasena responded by issuing a domestic violence restraining order (DVRO) and remanded the accused in custody.
The accused will re-appear in the Ba Magistrates Court on April 24 for a plea to be taken.
